With it being an Olympic year, the SLAF team knew we had to BRING IT in 2024. After launching the Mentorship Program, we set our sights on releasing a project that has been YEARS in the making: The SLAF Video Vault. The Video Vault is a constantly evolving collection of swimming videos. Because our goal is to give swim coaches the tools they need, the video vault shows swimmers the techniques, drills, and what-not-to-dos necessary to make their practices successful. And, it will surprise no one to find out that this is a MASSIVE logistical project. The amount of swimming videos on SLAF’s hard-drives is what makes SLAF, well, SLAF.
It is with great pride that we dig into the details of our swimming videos library.
Introducing: The SLAF Video Vault
Storytime from On Deck
One time I was coaching at a swim camp and noticed a swimmer pulling incorrectly on their Freestyle. I pulled them out of the water and explained what was going on. When I put them back in the water, the coaches of the club team shook their heads.
βWhat!?β I asked. Responding, they laughed and told me they had also told the swimmer the same thing over and over again. The swimmer had said they had been working to fix it, but at the end of the day, the problem persisted.
This is exactly why the SLAF Video Vault is so important.
Sure enough, the swimmer gets back in the water and continues to pull incorrectly. Instead of getting upset or frustrated, I decided to use the tools at my disposal…
I pulled the swimmer out of the water again and pulled out my phone. After searching for a swimmer doing a similar (incorrect) pull pattern, I showed them the exact spot that wasn’t right. Then, I showed them what they should be doing from another video (it helps to have videos of swimmers doing things right AND wrong).
Finally, the swimmer gets back in the water, and BOOM, itβs corrected.
Eventually I looked back over at the swimmer’s club coaches and they were staring at me in disbelief. SUCCESS!
Having visual aids that show a swimmer exactly what we as coaches are talking about is invaluable.
Here at SLAF, we want to make the visual aid easy to access and with footage of swimmers of all ages!
4 Reasons Why This Subscription Is Right For YOU?
1.) The content and price point makes it available to ALL Swim Coaches.
Whether you’re a high school, age-group, or club coach with a tiny or huge budget, this product works for you. We’ve categorized the library by age-group. Whether you want to show your swimmers someone their own age or more experienced, it’s easily searchable.
We have monthly subscriptions starting at $9.99, or you can pay for the entire year for $99! This is the biggest value product we offer, and we did that on purpose. We want everybody to be able to access this resource!
2.) Our video content is our bread and butter.
Most people find SLAF through our social media channels. It’s no secret that we share drills, technical advice and all things swimming DAILY for FREE on our Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Youtube and TikTok. Now, just imagine what we’ve got behind a paywall.
3.) Digging through footage is a logistical mess.
Even though we fully believe that every swimmer should see themselves on film, and every coach should be investing in underwater video, there’s more to it than that.
Let’s be real, even if you have footage you want to show your swimmers, accessing it can be a headache. Bringing technology on deck is risky. After all, water and technology rarely mix well. In fact, our vault can be accessed from your phone or iPad, which most coaches have on them at all times anyways.
Not only that, but our footage is categorized, organized and searchable. Storing content is one of the biggest challenges we see coaches struggle with – and we get it, we’ve got 7 FULL hard drives of content just to start.
4.) This product works with the athletes you have NOW.
It’s no secret that today’s athletes are different than any generation before! After all, they’ve only grown up in a world WITH technology. Today’s swimmers are very visually-focused. So, speak to them in a way they understand using our tools. What would it feel like to be known as the technology-friendly swim coach on deck (without putting in a ton of time and energy yourself)?
We are super proud to be offering this Video Vault for the swimming world to utilize! And, even more excited to continually add videos for you to use. We’ll see you inside.
Until next time,
Abbie Fish and the Swim Like A. Fish Team
